Aversion to Science

I received an e-mail this morning from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). Specifically, it came from John Cornyn, the chair of said committee. The subject of the e-mail, and why it so quickly caught my attention was, "Stimulus For Honeybees?"

Jeebus. Forget for a second why I am on this distribution list. I assure you that it isn't intentionally.

I knew exactly what the e-mail was going to be about when I saw the subject line and I wanted to puke. The main sentences are here:
The Democrat [sic] plan included $70 million for super computers to research climate change, $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $335 million to prevent sexually transmitted diseases, $150 million to insure honeybee farmers, and $20 million to remove fish barriers in rivers.
Wow - sounds pretty good, huh?

I'm not going to spend a lot of time talking about why honeybees are so important. Hopefully you have heard about Colony Collapse Disorder. But the bottom line is that programs like these in the Stimulus Bill, or more accurately THE JOBS BILL, are important. Oh and also, these programs comprise 0.006%, 0.042%, 0.019%, and 0.003% of the total. So you know what, Republicans, STFU already! Either get some new ideas of your own, or get out of the way.

I've never called my Senator, let alone a Senator that wasn't my own, but I'm considering it over this, not because this is the most major issue to come along in the past 8 years, but because my dad keeps bees and this issue is personal. I'll go to callcongress.org to find the proper contact info.
